Rafael Frost (nascut pe 25 august 1981 in Amserdam, Olanda) a inceput sa creeze piese pe primul sau calculator in 1993, folosind un program numit 'Scream Tracker', care i-a oferit sansa sa experimenteze cu diferite secvente. In acest timp, el a invatat sa cante putin si la chitara, un instrument care l-a fascinat, de asemenea. In 2004, Rafael Frost este primit intr-un concurs organizat de Ferry Corsten la postul radio 3FM, si este selectat impreuna cu alti cinci producatori in finala concursului la categoria 'Best New Dance Producer Talent Of Holland' (cel mai nou talent producator dance al Olandei). In acelasi an Rafael Frost intalneste un alt producator pe nume Hugo Zwarts (Alankara). Hugo Zwarts era in acel moment ocupat cu crearea remix-ului pentru Dj Maron, 'Three Drives - Greece 2000', si astfel ii cere ajutorul lui Rafael pentru a finaliza acest proiect. 'Greece 2000' a insemnat primul vinil lansat pentru Rafael Frost. Track-ul a fost, printre altii, sustinut si de Dj Tiesto. Dupa lansarea de la Massive Drive Recordings din 2005, Rafael Frost l-a intalnit pe Joeri Lodders, managerul casei de discuri Flashover Recordings, a lui Ferry Corsten. Dupa ce asculta piesele lui Rafael, Joeri Lodders este imediat impresionat de o piesa neterminata pe atunci , intitulata 'Mute Your Mind'. Astfel 'Mute Your Mind' ajunge sa fie prima productie lansata de Rafael Frost la Flashover Recordings. Piesa a devenit un mare hit in toate cluburile din lume si a fost sustinuta de multi dj, cum ar fi Ferry Corsten, Tiesto, Paul van Dyk, Above & Beyond si a fost prezentata de Judje Jules in show-ul sau radio de la BBC Radio 1... Restul este istorie. Si astfel, ajungem in zilele noastre, mai exact in 2009, cand artistul arunca in aer multimile cu piesele 'Red' si 'Boomerang'.
In 2010, naucitorul Rafael Frost pare mai inspirat ca niciodata! Dupa ce a dat lovitura cu recenta 'Flashback' (lansata pe 08 martie 2010), artistul nu conteneste cu creatiile si arunca o alta bomba, aceasta fiind inclusa pe compilatia 'Once Upon A Night' a marelui dj/producator Ferry Corsten', ce va fi lansata pe 29 martie 2010. Este vorba de minunata piesa 'If Only'. Foarte ocupat cu lansarea acestei superbe piese si cu alte materiale muzicale la care lucreaza, Rafael si-a facut putin timp si pentru fanii din Romania si vizitatorii trancearena.ro, acordandu-ne un interviu in premiera pentru Romania! Urmariti-l! E cu si despre unul din favoritii mei - RAFAEL FROST - viitorul muzicii electronice, dupa parerea mea!
1. Hello, Rafael! A great honor to have you with us and you grant this interview for the premiere in Romania by trancearena.ro! What are you doing? How you found our interview?
All going really great, busier than ever, so I can't complain!
2. Not much since 'Flashback' could be heard for the first time in Corsten's Countdown ep 137, then in episode 138 of the last week your piece climbed to first position in Top 10 Corsten's Countdown. Congratulations! And hey, I voted there for you and, frankly, nothing else I wanted for this top. It is wonderful! I love it and reminds me of 'Boomerang' which i love also. What's the inspiration for this piece? And the title ... 'Flashback'? It is a retrospective of what? Or is it something else...?
Thanks for the vote, I can't stress enough how much I appreciate all the positive response so far and that so many people are enjoying the track. This really gives me the drive to go into the studio and create something new again!
"Flashback" is an inspiration from another track I had lying around for years, which was by itself an inspiration of BT's "Rare & Remixed" album track "Shame (Way Out West Remix)". So you see…there's not much left from that idea, but it got me started anyway!
The idea of naming the track "Flashback" came from the effects I've used in the middle part. There are some parts that fade away and then, at once, are being pulled back again…which is kind of how a flashback works. So there you have it!
3. You get where you get! Congratulations! A very talented artist who gets on the trail of the most famous DJs and producers of our days! You'll be up hard, man! But tells us ... when and how you started to produce music? You dream of these days or it was just a child's play?
I started creating electronic music 15 years ago and yes, it has always been my dream to make a living out of it, so I can only say that I feel really lucky!
4. What inspires you to create your music? Got a story for each song? I ask this because I do not think you are a machine who makes music; you are an artist who puts more heart and story in his productions! Wrong?
Well at leaset I don't hope that I sound like a machine haha! Each song has indeed got a little story. Sometimes it doesn't even have to be a deep emotional story. But I think all those little parts you experience in life, that make you who you are, are always reflected in making music. Like you said, I'm not a machine, so the melody always has to come from some form of emotion. As everyone differs, it's that what makes music so interesting and diverse.
5. We are almost an year since you released 'Red', a charming piece, supported by many renowned DJs and still on the lips of many of us. You have been acclaimed more with this track. You expect the same success with 'Flashback'?
Well it's going really great so far. It's currently in the Beatport Top 10 and voted number 1 in Corsten's Countdown. The Thrillseekers and Jon 'O Bir made it their tune of the month and with support from Armin van Buuren who made it one of his Top 15 tunes of the month, Tiësto, Ferry Corsten and the countless other names who are supporting this, it's a success already.
6. About another track - 'If Only', still unreleased and included on the new compilation 'Once Upon a Night', mixed by Ferry Corsten, what can you tell? It is different, special? Tell us anything that might make us a hint on this track!
It surely is special! Something different than what you'd expect from me for sure. When Ferry Corsten asked me to create an easy listening trance track for his new compilation, I of course was happy to jump in. With a track like this, it's nice not to focus on how banging the track should be, but more on the story you want to tell and that definitely gave me good inspiration.
7. How do you describe your music?
Melancholic with a rough edge.
8. What tools and programs 
you have in your studio? And another thing... about the acoustic guitar that we hear in your productions .... It is just a program or you play guitar?
My Mac together with 30" display is my biggest and most beloved tool! Furthermore I mainly use an Access Virus TI synth together with a bunch of controllers. Regarding programs, I recently switched from Logic to Cubase and feeling really happy with that. And yeah...I play the guitar myself.
9. The only project where you produced was Frost & Maron, a project that you worked with Martijn van der Ven, producing 'Mute Your Mind' and Time Out '. In the future you will work in other projects or we'll find you just under your name?
I don't have any plans for collaborations at the moment.
10. But collaborations with other artists? If so, who would you like to work? Perhaps another artist Flashover Recordings? Or ..?
Perhaps Ferry and I will dive into the studio one day, which could be quite nice.
11. What are you working now? What you prepare?
I've just finished a remix which will be released soon and I'm about to finish a second one. After that I will prepare my next release.
12. About the debut of an artist album we can talk? Prepare something about it?
I cannot say much about it, but there are some things in the works!
13. In what scenes and what locations can we find you in the near future?
I will be in the UK this summer and later on you can find me in Russia. Exact dates and locations will follow soon ;-)
14. But Romania, you will take it into consideration? ;) Maybe alongside Ferry Corsten with the new tour Ferry Corsten's 'Once Upon a Night'? It would be great! Romania has a wonderful audience, amazing people! Hahaha
Hahaha! I've never played in Romania, so I'd love to play there one time soon. I can see that the Romanians are very passionate about music, so it must be really awesome to perform over there!
15. What crowd did you like from where you performed? Why? What impressed you there?
I really like playing in Eastern Europe. The people there are really feeling and experiencing the music with their hearts. Holland for example is very different.
16. A favorite production of your tracks? Any favorite DJ or producer?
Hmm, well I must say I both like "Flashback" and "If Only" at the moment. One being a real banger and the other one a real emotional track. I don't have any favourite producers, but I really dig Bart Claessen's latest stuff!

1. Buna, Rafael! O mare onoare sa te avem alaturi de noi si sa acorzi acest interviu in premiera in Romania prin trancearena.ro! Ce faci? Cum te-a gasit interviul nostru?
Hahaha Toate merg foarte bine, mai ocupat ca niciodata, deci nu pot sa ma plang!
2. Nu e mult de cand 'Flashback' a putut fi auzita in premiera in Corsten's Countdown episodul 137, dupa care in episodul 138 CC piesa ta a urcat pe prima pozitie din Top 10 Corsten's Countdown. Felicitari! Si eu te-am votat acolo si, sincer, altceva nici nu-mi doream. Este minunata! Imi place foarte mult si-mi aminteste de 'Boomerang' pe care, de asemenea, o iubesc. Ce te-a inspirat pentru aceasta piesa? Si titlul...'Flashback'? Este o retrospectiva la ce? Sau altceva?
Multumesc mult pentru vot, nu pot sublinia indeajuns cat de mult apreciez toate feedback-urile pozitive pana in prezent si ca atat de multi se bucura pentru piesa. Acest lucru imi da energia de-a intra in studio din nou si de-a crea ceva nou! 'Flashback' este inspirata de la o alta piesa de cativa ani, care a fost o sursa de inspiratie si pentru albumul lui BT ('Rare & Remixed'), in piesa 'Shame (Way Out West Remix)'. Deci, vei vedea...nu a mai ramas mult din acea idee, dar de la asta am plecat, oricum! Ideea de a numi piesa 'Flashback' a venit de la efectele pe care le-am folosit in partea de mijloc a piesei. Sunt anumite parti ce dispar usor si revin, deodata, in piesa...cam acesta este felul in care lucreaza un flashback. Deci, asta e rezultatul!
3. Ai ajuns unde ai ajuns! Felicitari! Un artist foarte talentat care calca pe urmele celor mai renumiti dj si producatori ai zilelor noastre! Vei fi sus tare, omule! Dar povesteste-ne ...cand si cum te-ai apucat sa produci muzica? Visai la zilele astea sau a fost doar o joaca de copil?
Am inceput sa creez muzica electronica acum 15 ani si da, a fost intotdeauna visul meu sa traiesc din asta, asa ca, pot spune ca ma simt norocos!
4. Ce te inspira sa-ti creezi muzica? Ai o poveste pentru fiecare piesa? Intreb asta pentru ca nu te gasesc ca o masina de facut muzica, ci ca un artist care pune mult suflet si poveste in productiile sale! Gresesc?
Ei bine, cel putin sper sa nu sun ca o masina hahaha. Fiecare piesa are, intr-adevar, o poveste. Uneori nu trebuie sa fie o poveste profund emotionala. Dar cred ca toate partile mici traite in viata, care te fac ceea ce esti, sunt reflectate in muzica care o faci. Cum ai spus, eu nu sunt o masina de facut muzica, deci melodia intotdeauna vine de la o anumita forma de emotie. Cum toata lumea difera, asta este ceea ce face muzica atat de interesanta si diversa.
5. Suntem la aproape un an de cand ai lansat 'Red', o piesa fermecatoare, sustinuta de foarte multi dj de renume si inca pe buzele multora dintre noi. Te-ai remarcat si mai mult cu aceasta piesa. Te astepti sa ai acelasi succes cu 'Flashback'?
Ei bine, merge foarte bine pana acum. In prezent este in Beatport Top 10 si votata numarul 1 in Corsten's Countdown. Cu The Thrillseekers si Jon 'O Bir care au numit-o piesa lunii si cu suport de la Armin van Buuren care a introdus-o in Top 15 Tunes Of The Month, Tiesto, Ferry Corsten si multe alte nume care sustin piesa, este deja un succes.
6. Despre alta piesa - 'If Only', inca nelansata si inclusa pe noua compilatie 'Once Upon A Night', mixata de Ferry Corsten, ce ne poti spune? Este diferita, speciala? Spune-ne orice ar putea sa ne faca o idee despre acest track!
Acesta este, cu siguranta, special! Sigur ceva diferit de ceea ce va asteptati de la mine. Cand Ferry Corsten mi-a cerut sa fac o piesa trance usor de digerat pentru noua lui compilatie, am fost fericit sa ma apuc de ea. Cu un track ca asta, e bine sa nu te concentrezi pe ce efect va avea piesa, ci mai mult pe povestea, cum doresti sa-i spui, care cu siguranta mi-a dat o buna sursa de inspiratie.
7. Cum iti poti descrie muzica?
Melancolica cu o nuanta dura.
8. Ce instrumente si programe ai in studioul tau? Si inca ceva despre chitara acustica ce se aude in productiile tale....Este doar un program sau tu canti la chitara?
Mac-ul meu impreuna cu display-ul de 30'' este cel mai mare si mai iubit instrument! In plus, folosesc in principal un sintetizator Access Virus TI impreuna cu o multime de controllere midi. In ceea ce priveste programele, recent am trecut de la Logic la Cubase si sunt foarte multumit de asta. Si da, eu cant la chitara.
9. Singurul proiect in care ai mai produs a fost Frost & Maron, proiect in care ai lucrat alaturi de Martijn van der Ven, producand 'Mute Your Mind' si 'Time Out'. Pe viitor vei mai lucra si in alte proiecte sau te vom gasi doar sub numele tau?
Nu am nici un plan pentru colaborari in acest moment.
10. Dar colaborari cu alti artisti? Daca da, cu cine ai vrea sa lucrezi? Poate un alt artist Flashover Recordings? Sau..?
Poate Ferry si voi ajunge in studio intr-o zi, ceea ce ar fi minunat, intr-adevar.
11. La ce lucrezi acum? Ce ne pregatesti?
Tocmai am terminat un remix care va fi lansat curand si sunt pe cale sa termin un al doilea. Dupa asta voi pregati urmatorul meu release.
12. Despre debutul cu un album de artist se poate vorbi? Pregatesti ceva in legatura cu asta?
Nu pot sa spun prea multe despre asta, dar sunt unele chestii in lucru!
13. Pe ce scene si in ce locatii te putem gasi in perioada imediat urmatoare?
Eu voi fi in Marea Britanie in aceasta vara si mai tarziu ma puteti gasi in Rusia. Datele exacte si locatiile vor urma in curand ;-)
14. Dar Romania, o vei lua in consideratie? ;-) Poate alaturi de Ferry Corsten cu noul turneu 'Once Upon A Night'? Ar fi minunat. Romania are un public minunat! haha
Hahaha. Nu am mai fost in Romania, asa ca mi-ar placea sa mixez acolo in curand. Am vazut ca romanii sunt foarte pasionati de muzica, asa ca trebuie sa fie, intr-adevar, minunat sa performezi acolo!
15. Ce multime ti-a placut cel mai mult pe unde ai performat? De ce? Ce te-a impresionat acolo?
Imi place foarte mult in Europa de Est. Oamenii de acolo simt si traiesc muzica din inima. Olanda, de exemplu, este foarte diferita.
16. O productie personala favorita? Vreun dj sau producator favorit?
Hmm, ei bine, trebuie sa spun ca imi plac 'Flashback' si 'If Only', in acest moment. Una este o adevarata lovitura, iar cealalta este o piesa emotionala, realmente. Nu am producatori preferati, dar chiar apreciez ultimele materiale ale lui Bart Claessen!
