Solarstone (de asemenea Solar Stone), alias Richard John Mowatt, s-a format in Birmingham in 1994. Line-up-ul grupului ii cuprindea si pe fostul dj radio Andy Bury si Sam Tierney. Trio-ul s-a numit anterior The Space Kittens. In 1997 Sam Tierney a parasit grupul. In 2006 datorita diferentelor de gust si orientarilor in muzica din ce in ce mai mari il determina si pe Andy Bury sa paraseasca grupul. In scopul de-a prezenta sound-uri si perspective muzicale diferite, Rich a inregistrat sub mai multe pseudonime precum Young Parisians, Z 2, Sebatu, Skyscraper, Space Kittens si Liquid State. Muzica producatorului si dj-ului englez Rich Mowatt a fost sprijinita de mai orice dj trance si progressive, de cand i-a fost remarcat primul single single 'The Calling' (1997). ''Solarstone inseamna 100% calitate si o evolutie considerabila a genului'' (Dj Orkidea 2008). Mai bine de un deceniu Rich a zdrobit cluburile cu piese precum 'Solarcoaster', 'Late Summer Fields', 'The Calling'. Hitul sau 'Seven Cities' (1999) (Top 40) a rasunat in mii de cluburi si festivaluri si a fost considerat ca fiind cel mai bun record trance din ultimii 10 ani de catre DJ Mag. Track-ul - unul dintre primele imnuri balearic trance - a fost relansat de trei ori si s-a vandut in peste 500.000 de exemplare. In urmatorii ani Solarstone continua sa marcheze scena muzicii trance cu senzatii in difuzoare precum 'Solarcoaster' (2003), 'Speak In Sympathy' (2004), 'Easten Sea' (2005), 'Like A Watterfall' (2006). In august 1995 devine co-proprietar la casa de discuri Deepblue si a 5 sublabel-uri. La acest label Solarstone mentine un flux de inalta calitate si lanseaza versiuni inspirate, inclusiv unule dintre cele mai bune club-hituri - Young Parisians cu 'Jump The Next Train' (2005) si FKN cu 'Why?' (2007), fiind doar doua exemple de top.M ai tarziu fondeaza label-urile Insatiable Records si Solaris Recordings. In 2006 el a lansat primul sau LP, albumul greatest hits 'AnthologyOne'. Acesta a fost urmat in mai 2008 de 'Rain Stars Eternal'. In 2009 Solastone prezinta 'Electronic Architecture'. Venind cu un adevarat arsenal, acest material Solaris Recordings definitiveaza imaginea Solarstone, dj-ul. 'Electronic Architecture' este o combinatie de muzica si arta. 'EA' este doar primul pas din anul 2009 pentru Solarstone. Exista si cateva colaborari, pe partea de proiecte si turneul acestei compilatii care se anunta a fi ceva spectaculos. Rich in prezent lucreaza la un remix (nedezvaluit) al unuia dintre cei mai mari dj din muzica electronica.Solarstone in spatele platanelor este dj-ul pe care orice iubitor de EDM ar trebui sa-l vada. Recunoscut ca un dj, care aduce intotdeauna ce e mai bun, el a fost prezent la majoritatea locatiilor si evenimentelor de renume (Cream, Ministry Of Sound, Gatecrasher, Full On Ferry, Slinky si Euphoria) alaturi de cei mai buni dj. Pe parcursul acestor ani el ajunge si in Insulele Filipine, petrecerile din Australia si festivalurile din inima Braziliei. ''El are tot ceea ce are nevoie un dj: o uimitoare legatura cu multimea si o mare energie'' (Clubon Brazil 2008). Solarstone a mentinut intotdeauna un echilibru intre productiile originale si remixuri. A remixat pentru multe nume ,precum Paul Oakenfold ('Bullet In The Gun'), Ferry Corsten ('Galaxia' - Moonman), BT ('Calling Your Name'), The Human League,Radiohead si Sarah McLachlan. In 2008 Solarstone intra in DJ Mag Top 100 Poll pentru prima data, debutand pe locul 93. Printre toate astea, Rich si-a gasit timp (impreuna cu Robbie Nelson) pentru a gazdui show-ul radio Solaris International si ocazional pentru Trance And Progressive. Emisiunea Solaris International prezinta interviuri si invitati (guest mixes) timp de doua ore si este difuzata in peste 41 de statii FM si Internet, inclusiv Ministry Of Sound.com si Passion FM, avand o audienta saptamanala de milioane de ascultatori. Tiesto spunea despre Solarstone: ''...nu dezamageste niciodata...calda, frumoasa, pur si simplu o muzica minunata!'' Ferry Corsten: ''Intotdeauna am fost fan Solarstone. Noul single 'Rain Stars Eternal' este un track minunat!'' Above & Beyond: ''Solarstone este o adevarata afacere!'' Blank & Jones: ''Mereu am fost mari fani ai productiilor sale. Noile single-uri arata cat este de talentat!''.
